The legend Fafá de Belém, whose real name is Maria de Fátima Palha de Figueiredo, was born in Belém do Pará and is a renowned Brazilian singer, recognized for her powerful voice, striking style and passion for music.
Her career is marked by a variety of musical styles, including Brazilian popular music, romantic music, folk music and even rock. Over the years, Fafá de Belém has released several successful albums and had hits such as “Filho da Bahia”, “Vermelho”, “À Flor da Pele” and “Coração do Agreste”, among many other hits.
With almost 50 years of career and 15 million albums sold between Brazil and Portugal, she has recorded more than 30 albums, including CDs, DVDs and EPs, in addition to participating in successful compilations and other artists.
Fafá de Belém has received the greatest honors and awards related to the artistic world in her country. She received the trophies for “Best Singer” and “Best Album”, popular category, in 2016, at the Brazilian Music Awards. In 2018, she was nominated again, in the Best DVD category. Fafá de Belém has also received many international awards. One of the most important was receiving the “Tourism Medal” in 2011, an honor granted by the Portuguese government.
Fafá’s relationship of love and complicity with Portugal has been going on for almost 40 years and she is affectionately called “The most Portuguese of Brazilian singers”. She was the first Brazilian singer to record a fado album, by the same producer as Amalia Rodrigues, bringing a more contemporary vision of the rhythm.
Portugal is present not only in her life story, but also in her work, in her artistic influence, in her name (a promise from her parents to Our Lady of Fátima), and in her roots as a Portuguese descendant and citizen – a place she chose as her home and which she is always ready to promote and speak passionately about.
